2023 SAIAO Conference Embassy Suites Niagara Falls, ON: November 6 to 9, 2023 SAIAO presents a four-day conference for officers and civilian police members who investigate and/or manage sexual assault occurrences. The conference runs from November 6 to 9, in Niagara Falls, Ontario.
Presentations include: Statement Taking -Understanding the Impact of Trauma in a Statement | How Not to Interpret Trauma as Deception, a Five-Year Study by Ottawa Police Polygraph Unit/Domestic Violence Unit. Project Unity - Niagara Regional Police investigation into historical sexual abuse that occurred over a 20-year period. The sexual abuse centered around a family with five siblings who suffered sexual violence and exploitation at the hands of their father. Operation Hellbender - A look into the domestic sex trade of a well known Nova Scotia gang. Investigation into the recruitment and trafficking of vulnerable high risk females into the sex trade all across Canada and the U.S. Toronto Police / FBI joint investigation - FBI in Texas began investigating reports that an unknown person was luring females under the age of 16 which were linked to an offender in Toronto. This case will highlight working across border agencies and unique technology used by the offender to perpetuate his offences. Boston Police - Boston Police will outline an on-going investigation into a sexual assault serial offender with ties to Ontario. Sexual Assault Survivor Julie Weil – Julie is sexual assault survivor and global activist who has used her experience to turn her trauma into lasting change. She will speak about surviving her brutal kidnapping and sexual assault in Florida by a sexual offender dubbed the “Daycare Rapist”.
